Wilpattu National Park

Wilpattu, the largest national park in Sri Lanka, is renowned for its high leopard population while maintaining a serene environment, unlike the busier Yala. Here, you can encounter crocodiles, sambhur, water buffalo, elephants, and the elusive sloth bear. Birdwatchers will be thrilled with the park’s avian diversity, especially between November and April, spotting eagles, owls, kites, and various wading birds thriving around the rain-filled sand-rimmed basins known as willus.

Kalapitya Peninsula

Discover the untouched coastline of the Kalapitya Peninsula, located just northwest of the Puttalam salt pans. From November to February, witness the spectacular dolphin and whale migrations. For adventure seekers, May to July offers prime kite-surfing conditions thanks to the strong winds. Alternatively, relax in the shade of a beach hut or bask in the sun on the sandy shores.
